When John was young(er) he had to do "chores". The barn was about 100 yards from the house. In the winter it would be dark when the chores were finished. So his older brother Joe thought it would be funny to turn out the lights and take off, leaving his little brother outside in the dark. Since John was younger and not as fast he would take off with his little heart beating a million miles an hour, screaming at Joe. Joe would hide behind the pump house close to the house and then jump out to scare John even worse. At some point, John realized that Joe was scared of the dark too and if he could wait a minute and take a deep breath that Joe would go in the house and he would be able to go into the house peacefully. To this day John has never since been afraid of the dark. Joe, however, just might be. (Sorry Joe!)
