Hunts for a Cure

On June 4th our family participated in the "Relay for Life". The all night relay is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society to provide funding for cancer research. After losing our dear daughter/sister/mother/aunt Celia to leukemia last year, as well as our mother, Linda and my husband, John, having fought with cancer, it was good to fight back against this devastating disease.

I was honored to walk the first lap, the Survivor lap, with my mom.

Our team made a pretty good show for our first year of participation in this event. We had 51 team members and raised around $5000 for the event.

Ian and John made a pretty good team in serving up the popular snow cones as part of our fundraising effort at the event.

Other fundraisers included a yard sale in the valley during February.

In April we had another yard sale in Winslow. My mom was also extremely successful in acquiring donations from many family and friends who had also been affected by cancer.

Claire and Grandma Hunt enjoyed singing together as the night wore on.

Part of the event includes bagpipes playing while walking a lap and names of those who have been submitted "In Memory Of" or "In Honor Of" are read as the field is dark with the exception of the light from the luminarias.

Makenna and Stacey spent some time at a luminaria that was special to them.

It was a special evening as our family rallied together.
