On June 5th we attended the local Relay for Life event. Last year was the first time I had gone to it and I was very impressed. I had wanted to get a family/friend team together for the event this year but with the "CAUSE" (cancer) impacting our family so acutely at this time, it just didn't happen.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.

My Laurel class president, Lucy, aka Princess Leia, was part of the high school student council's Star Wars booth.
Chloe enjoyed a hot dog for dinner.

We had a little cotton candy.
For me, the most amazing and special part of the night was when they turn down the field lights and light the luminarias that are "in honor" or "in memory" of those who have battled cancer.
